In the past 24 hours, at least 48 Palestinians had been killed and 79 more wounded in the Zionist occupation army’s siege of Gaza.
With thousands of remains believed to be buried under the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israeli strikes, the number of those killed is likely to be substantially higher.
The number of Palestinians killed as a result of continued Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has risen to 34,097, the Gazan Health Ministry reported on Sunday.
In a statement, officials said the Israeli military killed 48 Palestinians and wounded 79 others over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 34,097 and the number of wounded to 76,980 since the siege by Israeli troops broke out.
Gazan authorities estimate that at least 8,000 people are still under the rubble as rescuers struggle to locate them due to the lack of internet and incessant Israeli attacks.
Mahmoud Basal, a spokesman for the Civil Defense Service in the Gaza Strip, told reporters that rescuers recovered more than 50 bodies at various sites in the city of Khan Younis, from where the Israeli army withdrew on April 7 after four months of ground operation.
Basal said the bodies were buried in graves by the Israeli army, adding that search operations were continuing because thousands of people were still missing in Gaza. Israeli forces “destroyed dozens of bodies” before burying them and retreating, he said.
In this regard, the authorities of the Gaza Strip discovered in the last few hours a new mass grave in the courtyard of a hospital in Khan Younis (south), from where they recovered another 60 bodies on Sunday.
Since last Friday, a total of 210 bodies have been found at the Nasser hospital, while some 2,000 are still missing in the area.
