Israeli Warplanes Strike Residential Areas in Lebanon Despite Ceasefire!

Israeli warplanes struck residential buildings across eastern and southern Lebanon, demolishing homes and issuing evacuation warnings, in continued violations of the ceasefire agreement in place since November 2024.

Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on residential buildings in eastern and southern Lebanon on Thursday, in continued violations of the ceasefire agreement in place since November 2024.

According to witnesses, Israeli aircraft struck two residential buildings in the town of Sohmor in the western Bekaa region after issuing evacuation warnings to residents earlier in the day.

Additional airstrikes targeted two homes in the town of Mashghara, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The Israeli army claimed the targeted buildings were linked to Hezbollah infrastructure. Prior to the attacks, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued warnings to residents of specific buildings in Sohmor and Mashghara, urging them to evacuate ahead of the strikes.

Lebanese media also reported a broader wave of Israeli attacks earlier on Thursday, including the demolition of homes in several towns in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh governorate.

According to NNA, Israeli forces destroyed a residential home in the town of Blida, detonated a building in the center of Kfar Kila, and carried out controlled demolitions of two houses in the border town of Adaisseh.

Israeli army radio said the air force launched its third wave of strikes on Lebanon on Thursday, targeting what it described as weapons depots and facilities used by Hezbollah, in what it claimed were efforts to prevent the group from rebuilding its capabilities.

The strikes come amid reports in Israeli media that the army has completed preparations for a potential large-scale offensive against Hezbollah if Lebanese authorities fail to dismantle the group’s weapons.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, which came into effect in November 2024, was meant to halt more than a year of cross-border hostilities that unfolded alongside Israel’s genocide in Gaza. During the conflict, more than 4,000 people were killed and around 17,000 wounded in Lebanon.

Under the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces were required to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon. However, Israel has only partially pulled back and continues to maintain a military presence at five border outposts, alongside repeated airstrikes, shelling, and demolitions inside Lebanese territory.

Lebanese officials and media have repeatedly described the ongoing attacks as systematic breaches of the ceasefire, warning that they risk further escalation along the Lebanon-Israel border.
